The Tops of Trees

Page history last edited by Paisano 1 year, 6 months ago

Inspired by the movie "Phenomenon" starring John Travolta. The amazing scenes where he's transfixed by the tops of trees swaying in the breeze is an unforgetable experience for me. I try to capture that feeling whenever I'm outdoors.

Here's a great scene near the end where George explains how he feels to Lace. I love the way he compares it to holding and comforting a newborn in your arms.

I become transfixed when I watch the tops of trees.

I close my eyes and become a part of the breeze.
Whispering winds speak to me soft tones of woe.
Echoes of voices gust each time the winds blow.
Live this dream now and never awaken.
Remain ever still and never be shaken.
I can feel the mighty strength of the air.
I sense an inner calm as I become aware.
I realize the meaning of my life on this Earth.
I no longer question death or even my birth.
The greens of the leaves mesmerize my eyes.
I watch in wonder at their splendor and size.
The same force in these goliaths lives inside of me.
There is a connection that we cannot touch or see.
Yet, I can feel the rhythms of their song.
It is an eternal opus that does not last long.
While this moment lasts—I revel in my bliss.
I embrace the beauty and accept nature’s kiss.
I am wooed by the wild blue sky.
I no longer feel the urge to ask why.
I feel like I am within my mother’s arms and I am a child.
My creator sings sweet lullabies to appease all things wild.
I become lost and found in this symbiotic dance.
I savor every moment of this glorious and natural trance.
I am engulfed as I feel life with all of my senses.
I feel safe and free—no need for any defenses.
I move to the same beat as the branches when they sway.
I become ever grateful for this life and thank God for this day.

Here's another powerful scene... when George is told about his terminal condition. Watch the incredible performances by his friends who try to be strong for him. Loved them all...especially the moment George and Lace have when he asks if she's going to love him for the rest of his life and she says "No, I'm going to love you for the rest of mine"
